Things I learned about birds

There are 426 species of birds in Cape May, New Jersey. In the month of May is when songs of birds are most heard. In the Spring a lot of birds are colorful. Their plumage becomes duller in the fall. I saw a bunch of birds in Heislerville, East Point Lighthouse and Thompson's beach. The best named bird is the Ruddy Stoneturn. The cutest bird was a barn swallow. Yesterday was a great day for bird watching and rescuing horseshoe crabs. Today it was rainy and windy but the hardcore birders kept at it.

Cape May was a bit sad today in the rain. It is only limping into the summer season anyway. Saw a jogger and two women riding bikes like it wasn't even raining, but generally speaking, not much is going on. Nice and quiet in Cape May Point, just the way I like it. The body of water across from our rented house got very active later in the afternoon. It was enjoyable to watch and listen. But the very BEST part of the day was waking up and seeing the sun rise over the pond out the window while I was still lying in bed. I am looking out of a window right now and seeing the beam of the lighthouse. It is nicely framed by the window.

Read the current edition of the newspaper called Exit zero. That is the exit off of the Garden State Parkway for Cape May. It is a rag filled with advertisements and pictures of people posing and posed. You get a good idea of what goes on around here.

In a windowless room at the beach

My plan for the day was to lie on the beach and then take a walk.  Also spend a few hours in the computer lab at the Ocean City library. And maybe visit a friend in an aging place.   Well, the beach was wild and windy.  I should have been happy as it was beautiful and I was allowed to access it and there was NO ONE THERE!  But I was freezing as I swore never to wear a coat any more a few weeks ago.  I will have to find somewhere inland to get my walk in.

So I came over to the library.  I love this library.  You sit in the computer lab with comfortable chairs and very few people.  They are all well behaved.  Only problem is, there is not enough room for all of my STUFF.  But, hopefully, they still allow you THREE hours on the computer if no one is waiting.  Now, that is more like it! I am always struggling to get all my computer chores done.  It is a never-ending battle.

Actually, this is an "excursion" day.  I need to plan one a week.  Haven't even been able to get THAT in as every day seems to have an event.  Sometimes only one event, but an event nonetheless.  But now I am thinking that I need to schedule TWO excursion days....one for the beach and one for all the other places I would like to go.  Why not?  I AM retired, after all!  I could visit oh-so-many beach towns and get back to my idea of exploring every exit of the Garden State Parkway.  And suddenly, miraculously, my Sprint navigator started working again!  I do have some slight fear that the saleslady at the Sprint store might have signed me up by pushing a button that I never push.  She was trying to show me how to load a picture onto Facebook from the phone.  That, BTW, was NOT successful.  Only a small portion of the picture appeared on Facebook.  It looked good, but was incomplete.  Back to the drawing board on that one.

I could spend ALL DAY on the computer. It involves sitting. I like sitting. And it is rewarding for people who are into LISTS, also for people suffering from ADD. Trying to figure out this blogging thing. Why don't people offer CLASSES on it? Sitting in a peaceful library is my idea of a good time on a day when the temperature is supposed to top 90 degrees. Yesterday I joined yet ANOTHER library system so I have even more libraries to sit in. I did do more than just that yesterday. I enjoyed the beach, shopped, ate, tried to take a walk on the "promenade" in Cape May (but it was too hot for me). All this gorgeousity...and only one hour from my house. Don't ask me why I have not been down there at all in 2012 until August 30. Here's my new idea - visit every exit on the Garden State Parkway and explore and write about it. Cape May is at exit 0. Now here is my sister's idea - that I should blog from all the different libraries I visit. Reminds me of my visit to the library of Telluride, Colorado. It is in a small building which used to be a jail. They have a notebook and the patrons bring back stories and photographs of libraries they have seen all over the world. Telluride is that kind of place. Thinking of doing reviews....of libraries, restaurants, books, etc. Still sipping my free cup of coffee from our new McDonald's. You can get a free small coffee through September 8th. Why do I seem to be the only person really excited about this? When you are retired, you LIVE for this sort of thing. Did I say this already on another post? How do people keep track of whether they are repeating themselves?
