One of my proposed lists is pros and cons of NEW JERSEY, where I was born and where I have been living for the last 40 years. Today a list came to my attention of the ten worst states in which to retire, and NJ wasn't on it!?!
The realms of gold (book), Margaret Drabble. I think I have read this one before. It was a yellowing paperback that I carried around in my overnight bag to read when away from home. Since I do not spend much time away from home, it took me quite a while to get through it (again?) I like this author, she is Canadian. The book was written in 1975 and follows a woman who is an academic archeologist, to her various conferences. She has been involved for a long time with a married man.
My god, I am like a bag lady with all of my folders and containers spread out like I own the place (at the Bridgeton Public Library). Only thing on my calendar for this afternoon is to go downtown to hear a free concert by a great group of guys from The Praise and worship institute in Nashville, TN. Might have to get something to EAT first.

And another week begins
Pleasures and annoyances already on this Monday morning.
Pleasures:
- yoga
- getting up at usual time of 8:45 AM
- Sam Smith CD, In the lonely night, on Hoopla sharing service at library
- sound is really good today through my phone headphones
Annoyances:
- loud people at library disturbing my peace
- had to get outfit out of dirty laundry basket and I am noticing clothes have been worn too long
- hungry but have to stay on computer to get my two hours
- rain
Not much on calendar today....just yoga and helping the homeless tonight. Spent the weekend running around so it is OK with me.
Tried to watch a DVD on my computer this week. DVD was acting up. Will return it and get another before I start complaining about the DVDs. Having worked in Technical Services in a library, I know all about people who complain about the DVDs when the problem is really due to their equipment. We used to WATCH videos and DVDs looking for the problems.

Where I live at, you can't trust NOBODY
Overheard, at Wawa. I don't really WANT to trust anybody in my neighborhood. Feel sort of bad about my glee thinking that the dog next door may have run away yesterday. I saw her out the window with NO leash and NO people. That night I walked around the outside of my house picking up trash since it was trash night and noticed a LOT of trash on the one side of my house. Never have I had so much trash before those people moved in next door. Also saw two big piles of dog shit in their yard. They don't pick up after their dog. Must remember to add that to the letter I probably won't have the nerve to send to their landlord, who is a LAWYER.
Not much on my calendar today. After I get done using the computer, I am going to go home and STAY there. I need to do that more, but I don't really want to. Am much more comfortable running around the county doing errands of one sort or another.
A feel good story today about Charles Ramsey liberating the girls from their captivity in Cleveland. A black man freeing white and hispanic girls being held by a Puerto Rican guy and his two brothers. Charles said, "I knew sumpthin' was wrong, when a pretty little white girl ran straight into the arms of a black man!" (him) Americans are so desparate for good news that they stand out in the street and CHEER when they hear some. The three girls had been missing for ten years or more.

Who are all these people who are tweeting?
Well, the Pope has started and stopped and I haven't even started yet. I only know one person who tweets and she is an author. According to the popular press, EVERYONE is tweeting. Not sure what I am missing. One of the blogs I read now is just her tweets and they seemed really BORING.
Got a late start today. Remembered my exercise instructor is away, so I didn't jump out of bed to make it to the class at 8 AM. Instead I lolled about until 9:15. By the time I got organized to leave the house and get to McDonald's and talk to a friend who just happened to be there, it was 11 AM before I got started on my computer chores. After about two hours, the wireless starts acting up here so then I will be off to the health club. I decided it is better to go during the day. It is just too crowded and crazy at night. Guess I could say that about a lot of things, including the libraries. So, I guess I will just have to go home and stay there in the upcoming rain and READ. I shouldn't be out driving around in the dark and the rain anyway.
Have a busy week coming up. Today, not so busy. NO events on the calendar.

Squidoo
This is a really cool website that I discovered today while trying to investigate the soundtrack of the movie Identify thief. You can get a list of all the songs from the soundtrack AND the original songs and listen to snippets of them on Amazon. Now I am going over to playlist.com to see if I can capture the songs. There was a lot of music with which I was not familiar. Good intent by Kimbra....Right thurr by Chingy....I eat boys like you by Ida Maria, to name a few. So far, having pretty good luck with it.
Identity thief was kind of good movie, in spots. Melissa McCarthy has quite a range and is good with physical comedy, which is somewhat amazing, considering her size. She is alternately cute, scary, funny and sad. All the other movies playing at the theater are too gory or too horrifying. I can't deal with that!
Guess I am going to have to resign myself to DRIVING AN HOUR to see arty films with lots of conversation instead of killing.
The weather is so grim today. My life is so predictable today. Unfortunately, I had several calendar malfunctions. My massage appointment was YESTERDAY, as it turns out. My date with my girlfriend also was YESTERDAY, I was dismayed to realize. I need some ART or some LOVE or some FOOD or some PALM TREES or some SUNSHINE. Instead I am having some COMPUTER and some EXERCISE. Ho hum. Alright, the MUSIC was unanticipated and is making me happy and preventing me from hearing the bleed-through from the other computer patrons headphones.

Pet peeves
It is annoying when many of the library computers are "down", the handicapped access button on the front door continues to not work, young girls walk by talking about someone's "birfday", and people were talking during a good portion of the movie today (Les miserables). On the plus side, the weather is gorgeous and it was $2 popcorn day at the movies.
Kind of rushing. The PRESSURE of having to complete all of my computer tasks in ONE hour. I do have my laptop in the trunk of my car....just too lazy to bring it in. So, in addition to catching up with my email, I must think of a few topics to write about on this blog and look up a bunch of stuff, like the French revolution and what that big stone elephant was doing in the movie, Les miserables. Left over from a world's fair, or something? Plus I have a Princeton folder full of stuff to do on the computer and a couple of plastic folders full of papers. So I will BEG for more computer time (that is the policy at the Millville Public Library).
Is today the day I am going to stop by Staples and invest in a calendar system for 2013? Still have not been able to make the switch to the electronic life. It is a slow process. One of the things I have to tweak today is my list of features I desire in my new phone, to which I am "entitled" as we speak. It is nice to be "FREE" of Sprint, but not nice to be indecisive and want to save money. If the sky was the limit, what would I get? Not accustomed to thinking like that.

A mistress of the sedentary arts
I just breathe a sigh of relief when it is time to SIT DOWN...and use the computer, drive the car, watch a play, read, etc. OK, I guess I am just lazy...but I have a lot of pain and discomfort moving around, climbing stairs, lugging all of my stuff around. I really should carve out a comfortable space at home and get the Internet, but then maybe I would never leave!
My calendar for 2013 is getting out of hand. Feeling the yearly anxiety...what kind of calendar should I get for the upcoming year? Of course, this decision should have been made in JULY but I am a procrastinator of the first degree. Shall I go electronic, get a bigger paper one or a smaller paper one, go back to the one-page-a-day or the two-page-a-day. I have a lot of things to record...all the possible events, things I should do, things I accomplished, good and bad things that happened to me.
Yesterday I came across a lot of people trying to apply for jobs online. They all looked frustrated as hell. One young woman had been having trouble with the phone giving her all these choices, none of them the appropriate one. Someone had told her she had to go online to apply for a job up at Carll's Corner for Bank of America but wherever she went online, she just went around in circles. Another woman I overheard at the library said, "When I ask for a job near Vineland, New Jersey, they give me jobs in Pennsylvania". The guy to the right of me was being quiet about it, but I could see from the red sentences on his application form that he was having trouble advancing to the next page. The new online application process is just nature's way of weeding out 90% of the people.
